古河城
Koga Castle is a historic castle in the Kantō region (Muromachi period (Ashikaga Shigeuji moved to Koga in 1455)). Its lord was Koga Kubo / Ogasawara, Doi and other clans.
Overview
Koga Castle stood in Koga, Ibaraki Prefecture. It became the base of the Koga Kubo in the Muromachi period and, in the Edo period, the seat of the Koga domain, held by the Ogasawara, Doi and other clans.
Background
The Kyotoku War began in December 1454. In 1455, Ashikaga Shigeuji, the Kamakura Kubo, lost Kamakura and moved his base to Koga in Shimosa Province. His line was thereafter called the Koga Kubo.
History
In the Edo period, Koga was a castle town for the Ogasawara, Doi and other lords, and also a post town on the Nikko Kaido highway.
Today
In the early Taisho era, river improvement works on the Watarase River turned most of the castle site into riverbed, and it was lost.
