Overview
History
Kawagoe City Museum is a municipal museum standing on the site of the Ninomaru (second enclosure) of Kawagoe Castle. Preparations began in 1981, and it was built as one of the projects commemorating the 60th anniversary of Kawagoe's city status, opening on 1 March 1990. The Kawagoe City Art Museum opened next door in 2002. The exterior is designed to evoke the town's traditional kurazukuri storehouses.
Swords in the Collection
The museum owns the tachi "Bizen Fukuoka Ichimonji Yoshifusa". The blade is said to have been handed down in the household of a retainer of the Matsudaira Suō family. It was lent as a special exhibit to the Saitama Prefecture Famous Swords Exhibition "Swords of the Bizen Tradition", held in the museum's special exhibition room from 25 October to 16 November 2025 and co-hosted with the Saitama Prefecture Token Preservation Council.
