Yamanashi Prefectural Museum

Yamanashi Prefectural Museum is a prefectural comprehensive history museum located in Misaka-chō, Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Since opening in 2005 (Heisei 17), it has been known as a facility that systematically exhibits the nature, history, folk culture, and archaeology of Yamanashi Prefecture under the basic theme "Nature and People of Yamanashi." Kai Province (present-day Yamanashi Prefecture) was the home base of the Sengoku daimyō Takeda Shingen (Takeda Harunobu), and the permanent exhibitions also cover the history of the Takeda clan and the warriors of Kai.

In addition, Takeda Shrine, which stands on the site of Shingen's residence, Tsutsujigasaki-yakata, has a treasure hall housing the tachi "Yoshioka Ichimonji," Shingen's war fan, and other items, and it can be visited together with the museum.

The permanent exhibition is organized into three parts: "Yamanashi's Climate and Life," "People Coming and Going Through Kai," and "A Society Living Together." It introduces the history of Yamanashi from ancient times to the present through the relationship between nature and people. Under themes such as "Messages from the Sengoku Period" and "Warriors Riding Across Kai," it also covers the Takeda clan and the warriors of Kai. Exhibits on Mount Fuji, mountain faith, and travel along the Kōshū Kaidō highway are also extensive, making this a museum where one can get an overview of the entire history and culture of Yamanashi.

From Isawa-Onsen Station on the JR Chūō Line, it is about 15 minutes by Fujikyū Bus (taxis are also available), and from Kōfu Station it is about 40 minutes by Fujikyū Bus. It is also well suited for sightseeing combined with the Fuji Five Lakes and Kōfu Castle.
