Kurashiki Art Sword Museum

Kurashiki Art Sword Museum is a privately operated museum specializing in Japanese swords, located in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. It boasts one of the largest permanent displays of Japanese swords in Japan. The museum opened on July 7, 2002, with Touken Sato, a company specializing in the sale and appraisal of Japanese swords, as its operating body.

It permanently displays more than 150 swords at all times. The first floor displays kotō from the Heian period through the late Muromachi period, and the second floor displays shintō and shinshintō. The museum introduces Kurashiki as "Home of the Sword, Bitchū Aoe."

The museum also consistently follows its own exhibition policy: visitors can pick up and appreciate the displayed swords. Unlike typical museum displays behind glass cases, visitors can directly experience the weight, balance, jigane, and hamon of each sword. The museum also offers sword buying, appraisal, and free appraisal services. Because the collection is actively rotated and updated, the environment is in place for visitors to encounter different masterpieces with every visit.

Admission was free from the museum's opening, but starting in April 2017 it introduced an admission fee under a passport system valid for one year. The museum also regularly holds sword lectures and sword study groups. It is about a 4-minute walk from the west exit of JR Chayamachi Station.
