Succession
When his father Okinobu died in Tenbun 10 (1541), Takanobu was 13 and not yet of age for his coming-of-age ceremony. He succeeded to the headship in Tenbun 12 (1543). He took the character "takanobu" from Ōuchi Yoshitaka.
The Nanban trade
According to tradition, a Portuguese ship first came to Hirado guided by Wang Zhi. Portuguese ships called every year from 1553 to 1561.

In Tenbun 19 (1550) Francis Xavier came to Hirado, and Takanobu gave permission for his preaching. In Eiroku 1 (1558) he ordered the missionary Gaspar Vilela to leave Hirado.
