Ikoma Chikamasa

Ikoma Chikamasa (1526-1603) was a warlord who went from a retainer of Oda Nobunaga to a vassal of Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi. Granted Sanuki Province (present-day Kagawa Prefecture), he became the first lord of the Takamatsu Domain. He enjoyed Hideyoshi's deep trust and also took part in the Korean campaigns. He is also known for building Takamatsu Castle (also called Tamamo Castle), and devoted himself to developing the administration of Sanuki. At the Battle of Sekigahara he sided with the Western Army, but thanks to the merit of his heir Ikoma Kazumasa, who had sided with the Eastern Army, the Ikoma family had its ancestral domains confirmed. His administrative skill became the foundation for the formation of early-modern castle towns in Sanuki.
