Description
Katakura Shigenaga (1584–1659) was the eldest son of Katakura Kagetsuna (Kojūrō), renowned as a strategist serving Date Masamune. After his father's death, he was active as a senior retainer of the Date family. In the Osaka campaigns, he set out with Masamune in place of his father, who was ill, and distinguished himself by taking the life of the enemy commander Gotō Mototsugu. Equal to his father in wisdom and courage, he was called "Oni no Kojūrō" (Demon Kojūrō). He later took Sanada Nobushige (Yukimura)'s daughter, Oume, as his second wife, and through that connection he is also known for protecting the surviving children and former retainers of the Sanada family.
