Fujita Nobuyoshi

Fujita Nobuyoshi (1559–1616) was a senior retainer who served Uesugi Kagekatsu. He is said to have originally been of the Fujita clan of Musashi, served the Hōjō clan and Takeda Katsuyori, and afterward transferred to the Uesugi house. He was valued within the Uesugi house, and when he went up to Kyoto to offer New Year's greetings in 1600 (Keichō 5), he received, among other things, a sword by Aoe Naotsugu from Tokugawa Ieyasu. However, as tensions deepened between the Uesugi house and Ieyasu, he urged avoiding war, and because of this Naoe Kanetsugu suspected him of secretly communicating with Ieyasu; he fled and took refuge with Tokugawa Hidetada in Edo. After the Battle of Sekigahara, Ieyasu granted him 15,000 koku in Nishikata in Shimotsuke Province, but after the Summer Campaign of Osaka he was attainted (his domain was confiscated).
