Hachisuka Masakatsu

Hachisuka Masakatsu (1526-1586) was a Sengoku-period warlord widely known as “Hachisuka Koroku”. A native of Owari, he became a yoriki (attached officer) of Kinoshita Tōkichirō (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi) and, as his right-hand man, was active in battles and diplomacy across various regions. He cooperated in the construction of Sunomata Castle and secured supply routes during the Chūgoku Campaign (against the Mōri), quietly supporting Hideyoshi's unification of the realm as a meritorious retainer. He is regarded as the founder of the Hachisuka family of the Tokushima Domain. He was one of the senior retainers who, as Hideyoshi's right hand, sustained the practical affairs of the Sengoku period.
