Chosokabe Nobuchika

Chosokabe Nobuchika (1565–1586) was the eldest son of Chosokabe Motochika, a daimyo of Tosa during the Sengoku period. Distinguished for his martial prowess from youth, he enjoyed his father's complete trust. At the Battle of Tatsutegawa in 1586, he participated as part of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's forces but was trapped by the Shimazu clan's ambush tactics and fell in battle at the young age of twenty-one. His death was a severe blow to Motochika and created a succession crisis for the Chosokabe clan. Known for his striking appearance and exceptional swordsmanship, he favored Tosa-forged blades (jito) and is remembered as a valiant general who always charged at the front of his forces.
