Amari Torayasu

Amari Torayasu (1498–1548) was a hereditary elder of the Takeda clan and one of the Twenty-Four Generals of Takeda Shingen, serving both Takeda Nobutora and Takeda Shingen. Following Shingen's seizure of clan leadership in 1541, Torayasu and Itagaki Nobukata became the two leading senior retainers, managing both civil administration and military affairs. In 1547 at the Battle of Odaihara, he led a flanking force alongside Itagaki that intercepted and routed the army of Kantō Kanrei Uesugi Norimasa, which had been sent to relieve Shiga Castle. The following year at the Battle of Uedahara, Torayasu and Itagaki were both killed in fierce fighting against Murakami Yoshikiyo—a serious blow to Takeda Shingen, who suffered his first major defeat. The modern politician Akira Amari is said to be a descendant.
