Akechi Hidemitsu

Akechi Hidemitsu (1542-1582) was a Sengoku-Azuchi-Momoyama period warrior and senior retainer of Akechi Mitsuhide. Also known as Sakuma-suke and Miyake Yahyakuji, he served as commander of Fukuchiyama Castle. Hidemitsu was one of the Five Senior Retainers of Akechi (明智五宿老) and participated in the Honnō-ji Incident on June 2, 1582. After Mitsuhide's defeat at the Battle of Yamazaki, Hidemitsu retreated to Sakamoto Castle, where he killed Mitsuhide's family and his own before setting the castle ablaze and committing suicide to maintain loyalty to his lord.
