Career

Takahashi Naganobu was born in 1817 in Izumo Province. He studied under the Izumo swordsmith Takahashi Fuyuhiro and later became his adopted heir. During the Tenpō era (1830–1844) he traveled to Edo, where he is said to have studied under Katō Chōunsai Tsunatoshi.

Activity

After his training in Edo, he is recorded as having served as an official swordsmith to the Matsue domain.

Reputation

Takahashi Naganobu is known as one of the representative shinshintō swordsmiths of Izumo, ranked among the makers classified as "superior shinshintō work" (shinshintō jōsaku).
