鉄拳 吉光(ヨシミツ)
An iconic character who has appeared since the original 1994 Tekken. Leader of the Manji Clan, he wields the cursed sword Yoshimitsu passed down through generations.
Description
Character overview
Yoshimitsu has appeared since the original Tekken (1994) and is present in all eight main entries. He leads the Manji Clan, a band of chivalrous thieves dedicated to helping the weak and fighting oppression. He entered the first tournament as a decoy while clan members stole tournament funds, and lost an arm in a raid on Dr. Bosconovitch's laboratory, receiving a mechanical prosthesis. He is voiced by Katsuhiro Harada from Tekken through Tekken Tag Tournament and by Tomokazu Seki from Tekken 4 onward.
Connection to swords
The clan passes down a mystical blade through its successive leaders. At each succession the blade is said to absorb the power and skill of the predecessor, and in later games Yoshimitsu adopts a second sword, Fumaken, to suppress the cursed blade's destructive properties. The blade shares his name, which recalls the famed swordsmith Awataguchi Yoshimitsu, though no primary source confirming an intentional link has been found.
Influence
He also appears in spin-offs and crossovers such as Street Fighter X Tekken, and his blend of samurai and ninja elements has helped popularize the image of the Japanese sword among international game fans.
