Series Overview
Masked Ninja Akakage is a period drama on the TV Asahi network, based on the manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Takashi Miike serves as chief director and Taiki Sato stars in the series, which depicts the world of ninja during the Sengoku period. The protagonist, Akakage, is the son of the leader of the Kage clan of Hida, a ninja who serves Oda Nobunaga and is ordered to investigate the evil Golden Eye cult. He wears a red mask, the emblem of his status as heir.
Centered on the struggle against the Golden Eye cult, which is expanding its power south of Lake Biwa, the series intertwines the historical background leading up to the Honnō-ji Incident with the story of a fictional ninja character. Comprising 20 episodes, it aired from October 27, 2025 to March 30, 2026.
