Description
Overview
Hissatsu Torisashi is a Japanese period film released on 10 July 2010. It was directed by Hirayama Hideyuki and stars Toyokawa Etsushi. It is based on Fujisawa Shūhei's short story "Hissatsu Torisashi" (collected in the 1981 book Kakushi-ken Koeisho), one entry in the "Kakushi-ken" (Hidden Sword) series.
Setting and Premise
The story takes place in the fictional domain of Umisaka. Kanemi Sanzaemon (Toyokawa Etsushi), a master swordsman, cuts down a concubine of the lord whose influence was harming domain affairs. His punishment is light, but because of his skill he is assigned to guard the lord against Obiya Hayato-no-kami (Yoshikawa Kōji), a member of a branch house who plots to kill the lord. Sanzaemon's niece Satoo (Ikewaki Chizuru), who is not related to him by blood and secretly cares for him, is also part of the story.
The Climax
On a rainy day, Obiya comes to kill the lord, Ukyō-daifu, and Sanzaemon, waiting for him, defeats him after a fierce battle. Tsuda, a senior retainer (chūrō) who had secretly arranged these events in order to eliminate both Sanzaemon and Obiya, declares that Sanzaemon has gone mad and orders retainers to kill him. Sanzaemon, who seemed to have fallen badly wounded, rises as Tsuda comes close, and kills Tsuda with a "Torisashi" thrust.
