ゴースト・オブ・ヨウテイ
A 2025 open-world action-adventure for PS5 developed by Sucker Punch Productions, a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima set in early Edo-period Ezo (present-day Hokkaido), following the mercenary Atsu as she hunts down her family's killers with her father's katana.
Description
Ghost of Yōtei is an open-world jidaigeki action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 5, released October 2, 2025. Rather than a direct narrative sequel, it is a standalone successor to 2020's Ghost of Tsushima, with a new setting and protagonist.
The story is set in 1603, in early Edo-period Ezo (present-day Hokkaido), around Mount Yōtei. The player controls Atsu, a mercenary seeking vengeance against the "Yōtei Six," a group responsible for slaughtering her family sixteen years earlier. Atsu wields the very katana that was used to pin her to a burning tree, and a replica tsuba forged by her father in the shape of two wolves plays a recurring role in the story — the sword itself functions as a narrative anchor.
In combat, Atsu draws on the katana alongside a spear, ōdachi, kusarigama, and dual-wielded swords, expanding on the one-on-one duel-focused combat of its predecessor. Ghost of Tsushima had already become a global hit for its portrayal of samurai swordsmanship and Tsushima's warrior culture, spawning both a live-action adaptation and this sequel. Ghost of Yōtei drew significant attention ahead of release for shifting to Ezo, a region shaped strongly by Ainu culture, and for its new female protagonist.
