Description
Overview
Fate/Grand Order is a mobile RPG developed by Lasengle (formerly Delightworks) and published by Aniplex. It launched in Japan on Android and iOS at the end of July 2015, reached North America in June 2017, and arrived in arcades in July 2018. A free-to-play gacha game, it follows protagonist Ritsuka Fujimaru through time-travel missions to save humanity, structured across the Singularity chapters, Epic of Remnant and Cosmos in the Lostbelt.
Connection to Japanese swords
Okita Souji, captain of the Shinsengumi's first unit, appears as a Saber-class Servant. Community and game references list Kashu Kiyomitsu and Kiku-Ichimonji Norimune as her swords, with her Coat of Oaths outfit transforming the former into the latter, the blade popularly believed to have been hers. It is a good example of historical sword lore overlapping with fiction.
Adaptations and influence
Anime adaptations include First Order (2016), Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia (2019-2020), the two-part Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot films and comedy spin-offs. Reported among the highest-grossing mobile games worldwide, it serves as a gateway to historical figures and sword legends for many players.
