Sanada Nobutada

Sanada Nobutada (c.1547–1632) was a warrior of the Sengoku to early Edo period. The fourth son of Sanada Kōtsuna (Yukitaka) and younger brother of Sanada Masayuki, he founded a branch of the Sanada clan. Initially serving the Uesugi, he moved with his brother Masayuki through allegiances to the Hōjō and then the Tokugawa, taking part in the Sanada's schemes and expansion in Shinano and Kōzuke. After a period serving Gamō Ujisato, he returned to Tokugawa Ieyasu and received domains in Kai Province, reportedly declining excessive rewards. During the Siege of Osaka he was sent to persuade his nephew Sanada Nobushige (Yukimura) to defect from the Toyotomi, but failed. He lived a long life and died in 1632, walking a path distinct from his brother and nephews while surviving the upheavals of his age.
