転生したら剣でした 第2期
The second season of the isekai fantasy anime about a protagonist reincarnated as a sword and the beastkin girl Fran who wields him. Premieres October 2026, animated by Studio C2C, streaming on HIDIVE.
Description
Reincarnated as a Sword is a Japanese light novel series written by Yuu Tanaka and illustrated by Llo. Serialized online from 2015, it won the 4th Web Novel Grand Prize in 2016 and has been published by Micro Magazine's GC Novels imprint, surpassing 3.8 million copies in cumulative circulation as of October 2024. A manga adaptation illustrated by Asao Maruyama is also ongoing from Gentosha Comics.
The series' defining premise is that its protagonist is reincarnated not as a person but as a sentient sword, retaining the memories of his past life while losing his human form and name. He is found and wielded by Fran, an enslaved beastkin girl, who calls him "Master" (Shishou) as the two travel together — a weapon-as-protagonist framing that stands out even within the crowded isekai genre.
A TV anime adaptation was announced in September 2021, with the first season produced by Studio C2C airing from October to December 2022 on Tokyo MX and other stations, drawing an audience beyond the original novel's readership through its portrayal of the bond between the sword and Fran and their eclectic band of companions.
On March 28, 2026, at an AnimeJapan 2026 stage event, a second season was announced for an October 2026 premiere, with Studio C2C and director Shinji Ishihira returning, and HIDIVE serving as the exclusive streaming platform.
While the sword protagonist is entirely fictional rather than a historical blade, the show's central device — a weapon possessing its own intelligence and driving the narrative — resonates with Japan's broader tradition of personifying swords as characters, offering a fresh take within the isekai genre.
