Asakura Ujikage

Asakura Ujikage (1449-1486) was the 8th head of the Asakura clan during the Muromachi-Sengoku transition. During the Ōnin War, he initially sided with the Western Army but negotiated secretly with the Eastern forces. After inheriting leadership, Ujikage worked to unify Echizen Province with assistance from three uncles. He strategically strengthened his position by allying with religious powers, particularly the Heiji temple. Ujikage died at age 37 after only five years of rule, succeeded by his son Sadakage.
