Overview
Shuban Sadamune is a tanto attributed to the Kamakura-period smith Sadamune. Its formal title is "Tanto, red-lacquer attribution Sadamune (meibutsu Shuban Sadamune) / Honami kao". It was designated an Important Cultural Property on 20 March 1954 and is held by the Fukuyama Museum of Art in Hiroshima Prefecture.
Name and Attribution
The tang carries an attribution to Sadamune in red, accompanied by a Honami kao, which is the likely origin of the name Shuban ("red seal"). It is counted among the meibutsu.
Today
It is known as one of the fine tanto in the Fukuyama Museum of Art collection. Blade length and detailed provenance are not given in the sources checked and are therefore omitted here.
