作品概要
《Fate/strange Fake》是由成田良悟於2015年出版的輕小說改編的動畫作品，是TYPE-MOON《Fate》系列的外傳之一。2023年7月先行推出特別篇《Fate/strange Fake -Whispers of Dawn-》（A-1 Pictures製作，55分鐘），隨後播出了本篇TV動畫系列。故事首次以美國作為主要舞臺，描繪了在西部城市斯諾菲爾德發生新聖杯戰爭的樣貌。
Saber宮本武蔵
本作登場了2位與日本刀淵源深厚的從者。作為Saber現身的宮本武蔵以江戶時代初期據傳創立使用雙刀的劍術流派「二天一流」的實在劍豪為原型，在劇中也被描繪為同時操縱刀與脇差的雙刀流使者。
Assassin佐々木小次郎
另一方面，作為Assassin登場的佐々木小次郎以據傳在巖流島決鬥中與宮本武蔵對決的劍客為原型。關於歷史上佐々木小次郎的實在性有諸多說法，確切的史料來源有限，但他作為以「燕返し」之技聞名的劍豪廣為流傳。在劇中被描繪為與武蔵勢均力敵、進行激烈劍戟的強敵。

在IMDb上，先行特別篇《Whispers of Dawn》獲得7點多分的評分，本篇TV系列獲得8點多分的評分，在Fate系列中是對劍戟描寫評價最高的作品。
系列中的位置
刀劍座同時也從Fate系列中另外介紹《Fate/stay night》，但本作《strange Fake》以實在的劍豪宮本武蔵及其宿敵佐々木小次郎為軸心，因此在對日本刀與劍術本身的論述上更為直接。

Niten Ichi-ryū and Musashi's Two-Sword Style
Niten Ichi-ryū, the swordsmanship school attributed to Miyamoto Musashi, is characterized by the simultaneous use of a long sword (katana) and short sword (wakizashi) in a two-sword technique. Where katana are conventionally wielded two-handed, this school's method of controlling both blades one-handed each was considered a highly distinctive approach, documented in Musashi's own writings such as the Book of Five Rings. The anime's depiction of Saber Musashi fighting with katana and wakizashi simultaneously follows this historical characteristic of Niten Ichi-ryū.
The Duel at Ganryū Island and Sasaki Kojirō
The 1612 duel said to have taken place on an island off the coast of Buzen Province (present-day Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture) between Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojirō is widely known as the Battle of Ganryū Island. Kojirō is said to have wielded an unusually long sword nicknamed 'Monohoshizao' and to have been known for a technique called 'Tsubame Gaeshi' (Swallow Counter), though accounts of the duel and Kojirō's own biography vary across sources and are believed to include considerable later embellishment. The anime's Assassin Kojirō is modeled on this legendary image of the swordsman.
